Turriff is known as Turra, it is a small town in Banff and Buchan with a long association with farming. The town is most famous for the Turra Coo incident following a local refusal to pay National Insurance in 1913, a statue of the Turra Coo (cow) has been erected in the town.
Today the town is home to 5,700 people, most local employment is within industry supporting farming. Historically the town had a large agricultural market which closed in the 1990′s as Thainstone near Inverurie became the central market for the region.
Turriff has a large two-day agricultural fair each year usually at the start of August which features livestocks shows, agricultural trade stands, displays from bands or other performers and fairground attractions.
